Devotion for August 29, 2025

“And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” (Romans 5:5)

Hope is acknowledging that God is faithful, steadfast, and true. Hope for Christians means that we look forward to the future because God is true in keeping His promises. God has not broken one single promise He has made.

When God speaks, His Word means something. He will not be persuaded by what may or may not be popular in today’s culture. He will not be manipulated nor coerced to concede truth and justice to anyone. He’s not bargained with by well-meaning, kind, or religious traditions of man. Instead, He is true to keeping all of His promises. And therefore, not only do we place our hope in Christ, but it is hope in Christ that will not lead to regret.

Listen to how the Apostle Paul explains this in Romans 5:5: “And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.”

So we live our lives with a strength for today that cannot be shaken, and a bright hope for tomorrow.

Prayer

Pray through the lyrics of this hope in the hymn “Lord of All Hopefulness”:

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever child-like, no cares can destroy,
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

Stay encouraged!
