In the 1990s, one phrase ruled the moment — “As if.”
That phrase was made famous by the movie “Clueless.” It was the ultimate eye roll, a sharp rejection and a way to say, “That’s not going to happen,” or “That’s not even close to reality.”
It was an attitude wrapped in disbelief. And sometimes that same phrase creeps into faith, not always by words, but with the way we live. We say Christ is King, but then we live as if we are the rulers of her own lives, as if we know better, as if dealing with Him is optional, as if His Word is outdated, as if the cross didn’t happen, as if the grave isn’t empty.
A.W. Tozer said it this way: “Millions of professed believers talk as if He were real, and act as if He were not.”
But now here is this: There is no “As if” about it. Christ is King. He’s perfect. Righteous. Risen. He’s not waiting for a vote. He’s not hoping for your permission. His crown is eternal.
And to all who confess. Who call on His name. Who surrender the keys, His kingdom comes. Forgiveness. Mercy. Salvation. Not “As if.” Only assurance.
So today, pick up your cross, follow the Jesus way, alongside the suffering world with the strength of grace, mercy, hope, forgiveness, and yes, suffering with others. (Luke 9:22-24). Follow your king. Live as if it’s true. Because it is. “To Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy — to Him be glory, majesty, power, and authority, now and forevermore! Amen.” (Jude 1:24-25)
Prayer
King Jesus, forgive us for every moment we live, as if you’re not in charge. Reign in our hearts today. Rule our minds, our words, our decisions. And let our lives reflect Your kingdom boldly, joyfully, and without hesitation. In Your powerful Name we pray, Amen.
Stay encouraged!
