Devotion for January 27, 2026

“Now you belong to Him who was raised from death in order that we might be useful in the service of God.” (Romans 7:4, GNT)

Jesus came to earth with a mission. God has a mission for your life, too. “You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God, who called you” (1 Peter 2:9, GW). Part of that mission is to help others. Regardless of your job or career, you are called to full-time Christian service. A “non-serving Christian” is a contradiction in terms.

The Bible says, “He saved us and called us to be His own people, not because of what we have done, but because of His own purpose” (2 Timothy 1:9, GNT).

You may think that being called by God is something only missionaries, pastors, and other full-time church workers experience, but the Bible says every Christian is called to service. God has given you unique talents and abilities to benefit others, and He’s gifted others with talents and abilities to benefit you. If you don’t share your talents with those around you, they’ll be cheated. If they don’t share their talents with you, you’ll miss out.

For instance, if you’re someone who doesn’t know what a carburetor is, isn’t it great that other people have mechanical skills? On the other hand, maybe you make the best chocolate chip cookies in your neighborhood and can share that gift with people around you. Everything in society says, “It’s all about me.” Yet nothing could be further from the truth! God is calling you to use your gifts to help others.

When you use your God-given abilities to help others, you are fulfilling your calling. The Bible says, “Now you belong to Him who was raised from death in order that we might be useful in the service of God” (Romans 7:4, GNT).

Jesus glorified God by fulfilling His mission. God wants you to follow that example. When you can go and do, act on that. The Holy Spirit will lead you.

How are you using your God-given abilities to help others? I believe everything starts with prayer. Coming before God throughout the day seeking His guidance, and instruction. The Holy Spirit will operate through what your ears hear, and your eyes see. Praying for others and situations is powerful. The TV news gives us a great opportunity for prayer. Much of what we see is violent, evil, disgusting, immoral behavior around the world as seen in the words and actions in all nations; poor and rich alike. Sin and Satan work all people against one another and against God.

Prayer is putting a positive into any given negative situation of which you cannot change. To let hate into your heart over people and situations gives heartache that the devil will use against you. Pray, praise, and give thanks in all situations.

Prayer

Father, into Your hands i commit my life and all that I can do. Let my words and actions reflect the joy You have given me; granting me the grace and mercy of Your salvation.

Stay encouraged!
