Devotion for July 30, 2023

A little different kind of devotion today on the presence and work of God our Rock, who in the OT is a picture of Jesus, the Rock, foundation of the Church. Read each verse, pause a moment to take the thought in of what the “rock” is doing in the verse, and then move on.

Psalm 18:2
“The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 18:31
“For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?”

Psalm 18:46
“The Lord lives; and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation …”

Psalm 19:14
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”

Psalm 27:5
“For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent, he will set me high upon a rock.”

Psalm 28:1
“To thee, O Lord, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the Pit.”

Psalm 31:2
“Incline thy ear to me, rescue me speedily! Be thou a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!”

Psalm 31:3
“Yea, thou art my rock and my fortress; for thy name’s sake lead me and guide me …”

Psalm 61:2
” … from the end of the earth I call to thee, when my heart is faint. Lead thou me to the rock that is higher than I.”

Psalm 62:2
“He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly moved.”

Psalm 62:6
“He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.”

Psalm 62:7
“On God rests my deliverance and my honor; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.”

Psalm 71:3
“Be thou to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress, to save me, for thou art my rock and my fortress.”

Psalm 78:35
“They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God their redeemer.”

Verse: “The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock (El Sali); and exalted be God, the rock of my salvation.” — 2 Samuel 22:47 (Meaning: God, my Rock.)

Prayer

El Sali, You deserve my gratitude. You stay steady when all else around me crumbles and falls. Thank You for the power of Your strength — thank You that You are my rock, You are the God of my salvation. Thank You for Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for my sins. Thank You that You not only save me for eternity but You offer me salvation while on earth. Accept my humble words and heart of prayer as I bow before You to thank You for all that You have done for me. Amen.

Stay encouraged!
