“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree … planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green.” (Psalm 92:12-15)
The Bible promises that those who are righteous “will flourish like a palm tree.” These trees provide an important comparison: They could thrive even in hot, dry, remote areas.
The picture is clear: God wants to bless us just like those palm trees. There may be sin all around us, but, if we are righteous before God, He can cause us to flourish with blessings that never fade. He promises that we will “still bear fruit in old age” and “stay fresh and green.”
Psalm 1 made a similar declaration, where blessings were promised for those who don’t “walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers” (v. 1). If we delight in His law and meditate on it day and night, we will be “like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither” (v. 3). We will prosper in whatever we do.
The Bible urges us to realize that God wants us to be fruitful in everything we do — finances and health, relationships and spiritual life. This starts as we believe His promises and put them into practice in our lives.
No matter what is going on around you, if you are faithful to Him and live according to His principles, God can make you flourish like a palm tree.
