“Do not be silent, God … those who hate You have exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Your people … They have said, ‘Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation.’” (Psalm 83:1-4)
Throughout history, Satan has opposed God’s people. The Bible warns us that he is our adversary, spreading lies, trying to get people to believe his propaganda. He “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). This is why we need to be sober and alert. More than just irritating us, Satan and his demons seek to disrupt and destroy.
We see his destructive agenda throughout history — pogroms and campaigns to kill Jews, anti-Semitism, exemplified by the horrors of the Holocaust. In practical ways, Satan has spread confusion, planted false ideas, and distracted us from God’s mission.
The psalmist recognized that the enemies of God’s people were His enemies. They had “conspired together with one mind” and made a covenant against Him (v. 5)! They exalted themselves and made “shrewd plans.” The psalmist realized that we should hope in God. His prayer was that God would act, so others may know that He is “Most High over all the earth” (v. 18).
Remember that God has a plan for the nations and for you. He is on your side. His plans will be fulfilled. Ask God to help you fulfill the goals He has given you. Dedicate your resources to helping spread the Gospel. Pray for protection for His people. Pray for an outpouring of the Spirit. And “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6).
Prayer
Father, thank You for having a plan for the nations. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Bless and protect Your people. In Jesus’ name, amen.
