“I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; but let them not turn back to folly.” (Psalm 85:8, NKJV)

The psalmist was eager to hear from God, recognizing that He would “speak peace to His people.” He knew God could change his life, give him peace in every situation.

The Bible tells us that God’s peace surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). It is a peace unlike anything we can experience on our own (John 14:27), and it’s a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22).

But the psalmist also gave this warning: “Let them not turn back to folly.” While God’s peace is available for all His people, it’s possible to turn away and return to our foolish ways. If we turn back to folly, we may lose His peace.

The Bible reminds us that God gives us choices. As we face crossroads, we have the option of obeying Him or going our own way. We can surrender our lives to Him, stand on His Word, and let Him guide us. Or we can go our own way and suffer the consequences.

The world around us is filled with so many philosophies. So many promises, each sounding compelling and attractive. So many techniques promise peace. How can we know the right way?

If you have doubts, this is an opportunity to seek God anew. Read His Word. Pray. Listen to His voice. Ask Him to pour His Spirit on you anew, so His peace may flood your life, and He might take away your burdens and speak peace to you.

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your promise of peace. Please speak to me and guide me. Keep me from turning to folly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Stay encouraged!
