“But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the LORD will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” (Isaiah 52:12)
When you’re under pressure and tempted to move too quickly, if you stop and pray you’ll hear God saying: “You shall not go out with haste … for the LORD will go before you, and … be your rear guard.” What an awesome promise! God goes before you to prepare the way and comes behind you to correct your mistakes and redirect your steps.
When you’re about to make a wrong turn His Word says, “We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps” (Proverbs 16:9).
When He sees you heading toward danger, God will overrule your decisions and reroute you when necessary. When you don’t have what it takes to get the job done, His promise is: “The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring … you will be known as a rebuilder … and a restorer” (Isaiah 58:11-12).
When you’ve run out of answers and don’t know what to do, He reassures you: “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you” (Psalm 32:8).
When the load you’re carrying is too much to bear you’ll hear His voice saying: “Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall” (Psalm 55:22).
But in order to hear His voice you’ll have to reorder your priorities, sacrifice lesser things and tune out other voices. But you must do it, because nothing is more important than knowing in your heart that God is guiding you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to take time away from the “chatter” to be silent before You and to listen to Your voice. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
