He is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!

The Easter Gospel with comment: Mark 16:1-7

[the sadness] When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they could go and anoint him. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb at sunrise.

[the dilemma] They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?”

[the surprise] Looking up, they noticed that the stone — which was very large — had been rolled away.

[the fear] When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side; they were alarmed.

[the beginning of restoration and mission] “Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they put him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there just as he told you.’”

He is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!

Read Psalm 118:1-9, 14-29. This is a part of the Hallel Psalms 113-118 chanted as a song of redemption by our God. These psalms are a part of the Passover, and Feast of Tabernacles during the year.

This Psalm also contains Messianic references that are appropriate for Jesus’ work and especially during the Palm Sunday — Passion Week.

Are you a person of God or a person of the world?

“Nowhere Man” by John Lennon (1965) (a few of the lyrics)

    He’s a real nowhere man
    Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Doesn’t have a point of view
Knows not where he’s going to
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?

In Mark 1:12-13 Jesus who is True God and True Man was driven into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit and while being tempted by Satan was ministered to by Angels.

For the past year we have all been in a wilderness of temptation and testing because of the Coronavirus and ensuing life disasters. As Christians we comfort and encourage one another while in these trials and pray for those who suffer and do not believe in Jesus hoping that the Holy Spirit will touch their hearts as they cry out.

Jesus knows all our weaknesses and temptations. See Hebrews 2:14-18 and Hebrews 4:14-16. He continues to act on our behalf.

    Sermon Date: February 14, 2021

Transfiguration story of Jesus: Mark 9:2-8. Jesus reveals Himself in this pre-Easter event that the disciples may be energized to more devotion to the task at hand.

Transformation has the same meaning as transfiguration; metamorphosis (great change). St. Paul describes this action in Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 5:16-17.

The basis for this message is Isaiah 40:28-31:

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding. He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.”
