Transfiguration story of Jesus: Mark 9:2-8. Jesus reveals Himself in this pre-Easter event that the disciples may be energized to more devotion to the task at hand.

Transformation has the same meaning as transfiguration; metamorphosis (great change). St. Paul describes this action in Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 5:16​-17.

The basis for this message is Isaiah 40:28-31:

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding. He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.”

Mark 1:21-28: Jesus’ first miracle is casting a demon out and amazing the crowd with His power, teaching and authority. Jesus offers grace and hope to a devil embattled world and He equips all of us, the Church to do likewise

The Gospel reading is Mark 1:16​-20 and I have based three main principles upon it:

1. We are to look like him (1 John 2:6; Ephesians 5:1-2)
2. Draw near to God (James 4:8; Hebrews 10:22​)
3. Hold on to hope becoming Christ-like (Hebrews 10:23​; Psalm 147:11; Proverbs 10:28​; 1 Peter 1:3-4; Jeremiah 29:11)

We have great hope and great expectations for 2021 as a year for God to guide us into the gospel witness to reveal the treasure of heaven, Christ Jesus. May we finish 2020 in the love of God praying for others and sharing Jesus in the many ways we are gifted and the talents God has given us.

Christmas Eve

Keys unlock things so that what is needed to perform or function is released. God provided a hope chest of promise throughout the Old Testament. That hope chest was opened in the New Testament Christmas story of the birth of our Saviour.

As you a child of God have the gospel key may you use it to unlock the treasure of Jesus into another person’s life.
